You Said the Words
I wanted to tell you
But I didn't want to rush.
It happened so fast
So I just told you "hush"
"I have to tell you something
Please don't say a word.
I know it's real soon,
And it sounds so absurd!
But I hold these feelings.
They overcome my soul.

And I think it's time I told."
Then I moved in close,
So I could whisper in your ear.
"Baby, I love you"
Just loud enough for you to hear.
And you said not a word,
Just sweetly kissed my lips.
And that was just perfect,
So I kissed your fingertips.
I knew you loved me too,
But I wanted to wait.
Wanted you to be ready,
It would never be too late.
Fast forward a few days,
We're talking on the phone.
About to hang up,
And then we'd be alone.
Until I heard those words,
I'd been dying inside to hear:
"Ok baby, love you, goodnight."
And my heart froze with fear.
Is that really what you'd said?
Or did I imagine this thing?
You'd said the words so casually,
Yet my heart began to sing.
I hadn't said those three words,
Not since the first time.
And knowing you'd said them on your own,
Meant this was a sign.
My heart went a-flutter
I was filled with joy.
Right then and there,
I knew you were meant to be my boy.
