و سيكون يوم الجمعة يوم التصحيح الاملائي و اللغوي و القواعدي

Lesson 1



The Discovery of oil in Saudi Arabia

Sheikh Abdullah Sulaiman signed the Jeddah Agreement in 1933. Three months later, a team of American geologists arrived in Jubail. They began to search for oil. First, they explored the area around Jubail. Then, they went south and explored the hills near Dammam. They drilled the first well there in 1935. However, Well No.1 was not successful.

The search continued. The geologist drilled 9 wells in the next three years, but they didn't find enough oil. Some of the geologists were unhappy and wanted to leave Saudi Arabia. Other geologist, like Max Steinke, wanted to continue the search.

They decided to drill deeper into the ground. Finally, when Well No.7 was 4,727 feet deep, oil began to flow. Everyone was excited by the discovery. It was Saudi Arabia's first successful oil well. In 1938, Well No.7 produced 1,585 barrels a day. It's still producing oil today.
