:Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life Preview
Harvest Moon has always had at least one comfortable home. Even back in the SNES days it was on a Nintendo system and every Nintendo system since has had at least one installment of the series. That won’t change with Natsume’s latest installment, Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life. In fact, the game will only be available to Nintendo GameCube owners. The game sports tons of new features, including revamped visuals and even boasts a link up feature with the Game Boy Advance, which will be revealed later this year. For those who aren’t familiar with Harvest Moon, though, instead of learning about that, learning about the game's main concept may be a better place to start. It’s a Farmer’s Life
If you haven’t guessed by now, Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life (Harvest Moon: AWL) is a game that is all about being a farmer. From planting livestock, to raising barnyard animals, to settling down with a woman and raising a family, Harvest Moon: AWL will give players an experience only experienced by real farmers. Well, not quite. The game starts players out as a child. The game's star character is brought to Forget-Me-Not Valley (the name of the town in Harvest Moon: AWL) by a friend of his Father. Once he arrives in Forget-me-not Valley he soon settles in, after seeing the beautiful farming life the valley has to offer. Seeing as his father had recently passed away, the main character of the game at first settles in to see if something intriguing would come along. Soon enough he is sucked into the busy world of Forget-Me-Not Valley.

If Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life is anything like its predecessors then it will offer an addicting experience like no other. Sure enough, farming may not sound like the most addicting experience to be had in gaming, but those familiar with past Harvest Moon titles know just how fun Natsume makes farming. Player’s take on roles, such as planting seeds to grow vegetables and raising animals, such as Cows, to provide milk, all in hope of being able to make enough money to live off of. Player’s also mingle with neighbors and make relationships with the games selectable to-be wife’s. That is right -- Natsume has brought back the ability to settle down with a Lady in Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life. Also, just like in Harvest Moon 64, players will also be able to raise a family. According to Natsume, players will be able to raise a child from child-hood, to his/her teenage years, even to his/her adult life. The eventual goal is to be able to have a family that can help around the farm. Those interested in interactivity with NPC’s (Non-playable Characters) will love Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life. The game also features 40 different NPC’s to interact with, each unique and different from the last. Furthermore, Natsume says that character conversation between all the games characters has been vastly improved since the last Harvest Moon game.

However, Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, just like the past installments, is really about becoming a good farmer. Player’s live on a huge farm, with room for growing crops and raising animals. There are many things to invest in, as well, to further improve how well you are as a farmer. For example, in the past Harvest Moon games, players were able to buy a Greenhouse for harvesting crops all-year long. We don’t know if anything similar will appear in A Wonderful Life, but chances are things from older Harvest Moon games will indeed be carried over to the new game. What is also one of the highlights of Harvest Moon is the ability to raise animals. Whether you buy your livestock or raise them from babies, raising animals in Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life will be a big part of the game. The game features the familiar Cows, chickens and sheep, as well as new animals, such as ducks and goats. We don’t know what other animals Natsume has added, but when we do, we’ll let you know.

What’s new
Natsume claims that Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life is going to be the ultimate Harvest Moon experience. The game features new elements, such as the inventing way of cooking, allowing players to create hybrid vegetables and eat them, plus some other features that haven’t been revealed yet. What is also improved is the game’s interaction with NPC’s, when compared to past Harvest Moon games. NPC’s are more realistic and different than each other than in the last games, as said before. Another thing worth mentioning is the game's time flow. Natsume says that the seasons in the game are a bit shorter, in terms of how many days per season, but day-length has been extended, so players won’t have to rush to get all they need to done, done before sunset. Furthermore, the storyline will consist of 6 chapters, each one representing a different part of your life. Your successes and failures will be reflected in the following chapter, so that you can experience all the drama that goes with living a full life. Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life seems to feature a more polished storyline than past Harvest Moon games, as you can see. Lastly the game can be played out over 30 years. What other new features have been added to Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life we don’t know. Natsume has talked about a feature utilizing the GCN/GBA link-up cable in the past, so we imagine we’ll hear more about that, as well as the title in general in the coming months. Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life is planned to be released in Quarter 3 of 2003.

So far, Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life seems to be even better than past Harvest Moon games – just like Natsume has said. We can’t wait to learn more about this sure-to-be great title in the future.
