Winter air and your skin
Winter time always brings with it the static, dry air that makes it impossible to have a good hair day first of all but it can also be damaging to your skin. Whether you live in a warmer climate or in a place where you need to crank the heat, most of us end up with flaky skin, chapped lips and other problems.
Irritating your nose, skin and lips, the only way to winterize your skin is to hydrate and moisturize.
Make sure you:
Drink that water – Hydrate and moisturize from the inside out! Low-fat milk, fruit juice and other drinks without caffeine are fine, too.
No more hot showers - Resist the temptation to have a steaming hot shower, as it's more drying. Instead, use warm water as often as possible when showering. And if your skin is very dry, shower or bathe every other day, or even less often, may be best. Short baths or showers are easier on dry skin than are long soak as enticing as that may be.
Moisturize - After bathing, gently pat your skin mostly dry. Then apply a moisturizing cream while your skin is still damp. Thicker moisturizers work best and you may also want to use cosmetics that contain moisturizers. Olay’s ‘Regenerist Daily Regenerating Serum‘used everyday will keep your skin feeling moist and silky.
Moisturize your kisser - Use lip balm or petroleum jelly to soothe chapped or sore lips.
Use a humidifier - Portable humidifiers come in many varieties. And be sure to keep your humidifier clean to ward off bacteria and fungi. (Humidity inside your home should range from about 30 percent to 50 percent)
