DBZ Battle of Z - PGW Demo review (english)
Hi everybody !
I just tested Dragon Ball Z Battle of Z, along with Sharnalk. Some people criticized the fact that I only judged the game based on the gameplay videos and trailers. Well then, sincerely, this test with the controller in my bare hands makes me confirm what I thought.
The demo proposes 2 missions of the so-called story mode: the brawl against Vegeta and Oozaru Vegeta that we know since july, and a mission that shrinks the Android 17/18/16 and Cell’s last transformation part.
The game gives you the possibility to change the colors of the suit with L1, and a further customisation is available with R1 (health points, power, color of the skin + color of the outfit, etc…). This last option was visible, but not testable in this demo.
I started the first mission. We can choose any character for any mission, and that’s the same for the support characters. We can’t remove our allies, our team must have 4 characters. We can have the same character twice or more, even with the same outfit (for example, 4 Gokû with the same color). Some colors are inspired by the outfits from the movies (the orange dogi of Gokû, the dark one with a red belt for Piccolo…), but it’s very limited.
I came closer to the screen in order to listen to the music, but I couldn’t hear a thing. We’ll have to take care of this matter later.
Vegeta’s aura during the introduction cutscene of the fight has been upgraded, this is a positive point. Then, the chaos starts. I tried a lot of combinations and can tell you this: triangle is the only button for combos. A combo of 5 hits approximately. No variant possibilities with circle, no punch charge, no cancel, no variant possibilities with a direction at the same time. It’s not casual, it’s banal, lower than all the things that we have had in the past. Depth = zero.
The square button makes you rise, the X button to go down. Using this button with a direction gives you the possibility to go a little faster, or make some very useful fast dodges. The “classical” moves are fast (more than in the RB series, it’s cool!!), the gamepad answers quickly, and the fact that the character runs on the floor is stylish.
The kikoha button (round) throws one, two or three energy balls. No possibility to charge the kikoha to make it more powerful, in order to knock the opponent. You throw the special attack with triangle + circle, and believe me: if you play online, you will see it very often! I made a test, and tried to spam it in order to see how often you can do it. In 2 words: too often. When I tested the second mission, I could make a Final Flash every 30 seconds…
L2 and R2 are used to make a personal attack, it kinda looks like what we had in the Raging Blast series. I tested it with Trunks and Vegeta, it brings a little more variety to the close combat (in order to avoid making the 5 hit combo over and over again), but nothing really fancy.
If you hold the L1 button (guard), you access to some additional moves: a super dash, give ki, and 2 shortcuts for the personal attacks.
The directional cross lets you “manage” your team, just like in an action game. Old, but useful. R1 locks the opponent, and the right analogic stick changes the target. As this button is also used to move the camera, it can make you do things you didn’t want to. As soon as you’re against a wall, the camera problems start, and you almost can’t move it anymore with the analogic stick! When will a developer program a camera that goes inside the rock, making it translucent?
The destructible elements only break when a character is projected on it. The rocks don’t explode when you make a sprint anymore. Just like in the Spike games, a little puff of smoke would have been appreciated to hide the “magical” disappearance of the elements.
We also tested the size of the stages, and to be honest, it’s not exceptional… Though, the invisible barrier is kinda discreet (a translucent wave).
The game didn’t make a strong impression in my memory. It was like playing a mix between Tenkaichi 3 and Densetsu on PSX, but far less technical (and yet, you know that I’m far from being a hardcore gamer). The number of attacks is very limited, it’s only entertaining for a few minutes, not more. The occasional players may get their share, but I think that this game will be slaughtered by all the other players, including the specialized magazines.
From my point of view, the only real selling arguments are the anime opening, the presence of Bills, Whiss and the ssj God. This is not enough to convince me buying it. Otherwise, it’s a lot of déjà-vu, and it’s not even better than the previous software, it’s less good and less beautiful. The 4vs4 engine sould have been integrated in a “mostly 1vs1” game, as 90% of Dragon Ball fights are duels! Here, Namco Bandai imposes a concept, and disforms the original material so it can fit with their concept. They will continue getting on the wrong size of the fans…
Shueisha is currently killing its licence by imposing a regular rhythm of production to Namco Bandai. Dragon Ball has been too much exploited the last 12 years. Releasing a game that doesn’t take the previous softs into consideration is incoherent, the sells won’t hightly rise this way. If NBG continue making reboots regularly, with inexperienced developers that must start all over again, the benefits will decrease, which will reduce the budgets even more… And the vicious circle starts again. If they go on this way, the inconceivable will happen: NBG will lose its licence…

انا اللي قاهرني في نامكو بانداي انها تهتم بتطوير بألعاب ناروتو اكثر من العاب دراغون بول
يعني في كل لعبة ناروتو تطلع واحدة افضل من الثانية
اما العاب دراغون بول العكس بعد تينكايشي 3
الا يفهمون انهم يقتلون السلسلة بهذا الشي
والله ماني عارفه بس بيطوروا فيها من اي ناحيه ؟
وش التطوير الي في لعبة ناروتو ؟
مع ان الي يلعبون في العاب ناروتو يعترفون بان العاب دراغون بول افضل ~

الصراحه ماعندي خبره في العاب الفيديو وخاصة الاخبار عنها
اترك هذا المجال لكم ^^ فكل ماهو جديد الالعاب فهو بالفعل عادي عندي
و استمتع بالجزء المفضل عندي العب فيه بدون ما احس بملل :P
وانا الحين العب في تنكايشي 3 مثل ماوصفوته تماما
لكن يظل عندي بودوكاي 3 من أفضل الاجزاء و ما اهتميت للابعاد او حتى لو كان قديم او جديد
فهو عندي في التوب
