Freddie James Prinze, Jr. was born in Los Angeles, California on March 8, 1976. His father lovingly nicknamed him "Pie," because he was so cute. Unfortunately, Freddie Prinze, Sr.'s life - as well as Freddie's imperative time with his father - was cut short, when senior passed away when Freddie jr. was only ten months old. Shortly thereafter, Freddie's mother, Kathy, relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico, along with him.
An only child, Freddie often found fun and adventure living in his own imaginary world with make-believe friends, which is probably where his gift for creative thinking and writing stems from. However, because of this, he appeared to be peculiar to the other children his age, making it difficult for Freddie to "fit in" with the rest of the crowd. Despite his tumultuous childhood, he soon realized that he is better than the people who enjoyed bringing others down. "I realized, I'm not trying to hang out with any of these cats," he says. Freddie attended three different schools during his childhood, these were Eldorado, Sandia and La Cueva High School, where he graduated in 1994.
He had always displayed a curiosity with the arts, as he was a member of both the Albuquerque Children's Theater and the Duo Drama Company when he was younger, so soon after graduating, he headed westward to Los Angeles with only a little money, and a desire to focus on an acting career, but not much else. However, with a little perseverance and natural charisma, he quickly found himself appearing in roles on popular television shows such as "Family Matters," in which he appeared in the episode titled, "The Gun." More television roles came his way, including afterschool specials, "Too Soon for Jeff" (1996), and "Detention: The Siege at Johnson High" (1997).
Now with a little more experience in acting, Freddie shifted from television and broke into film with the movie, "To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday" (1996), in which he co-starred alongside big names such as Claire Danes and Michelle Pfeiffer. Even though his role as Joey Bost in the movie was a fairly small part, it helped garner him a larger, more complex role as star Parker Posey’s brother, Anthony, in the black comedy, "The House of Yes" (1997).
However, what brought Freddie significant attention in the film industry was his appearance in the horror film entitled, "I Know What You Did Last Summer" (1997), which was successful both at the box office as well as with audiences around the world. The following year, its sequel, "I Still Know What You Did Summer" (1998) was released, in which Freddie reprised his role as Ray Bronson. Even though it was not as successful as the first film, his next film, "She’s All That" (1999), was a huge success that earned Freddie more awards and recognition, including being named as one of People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People (2000).
Unfortunately, Freddie's following endeavor, "Wing Commander" (1999), proved to be an unmitigated disappointment, serving to illustrate the extreme fluctuations of success in Hollywood. Freddie's growing popularity, however, seemed to survive relatively unscathed. Despite the unsuccessful "Wing Commander," Freddie was able to bounce back with the release of a string of romantic comedies including, "Down To You" (2000), which he co-starred in with Julia Stiles, and "Boys and Girls" (2000) with Claire Forlani, which were popular among many teenagers. In 2001, a loyal fan <-<-<-<- would look forward to seeing Freddie’s next two films, which were "Summer Catch" (2001) and "Head Over Heels" (2001).
Meanwhile, Freddie’s career was not the only thing blossoming, as that same year, he became engaged to long time friend and "I Know What You Did Last Summer" co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar, who is most well-known for her role in the hit television series, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997). They went on to star in the hugely successful, big blockbuster, live action film, "Scooby Doo" (2002) together. On September 1st, 2002, Freddie and Sarah exchanged vows and officially became husband and wife in a small wedding that took place on a gorgeous resort in Mexico, which they shared with family and close friends.
In 2004, fans can look forward to seeing Freddie in the second "Scooby Doo" movie, set to be released sometime in March 2004, and Happily N‘Ever After, a computer animated film which he and Sarah provided their voices for, due out later in the year. Freddie is also venturing into other aspects of film, as he has been concentrating on writing and producing a few projects; one of which is the television series, "Mutant-X" (2001). He also has a new movie in the works called "Rave Train" that he co-wrote, is producing, and is starring in.
Freddie Prinze, Jr., a namesake of his father, comedian Freddie Prinze, the star of the popular NBC ‘70s sitcom, "Chico and the Man," has truly made a name for himself with his unfaltering determination, hard-work, magnetism, and natural talent. With that, Freddie will undoubtedly have a prolific, long, and happy life and career ahead of him.
